If you ask some women they’d say the Battle of the Sexes hasn’t changed much since the Middle Ages. That notion is at the heart of Devin Mills’ smart, amusing new web series Dating In The Middle Ages.
The independent web series Dating in the Middle Ages is one with a very clear audience thanks to its premise: The show tracks Samantha Collins (Devin Mills, who also wrote the series), a middle-aged woman aspiring to become a romance novelist and also, just maybe, have a successful romantic life. But, of course, life is never that easy, even if your life is a slightly exaggerated form of reality with plenty of original song-and-dance numbers.
There is something for everyone here, from comedy to musical numbers, and lots of satire when it comes to the current state of dating. There is a scene where Samantha is transformed into a Lady Gaga type performer as she sings an ode to her ideal guy. Then she is put through a humiliating meeting with a matchmaker who seems more interested in creating a whole new Samantha to “sell” than in finding her the right match.
We’ve waited a long time for an untapped web series demographic to represent…ahem…the middle ages. Now we have it with ‘Dating in the Middle Ages’…
